The Two Thousands
Class of 2002
- Adam Young was recently named the "Voice of the Grizzlies" for the Gateway Grizzlies Baseball Team. Adam earned his bachelor's degree in Mass Communications in 2010 from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. While in college, Adam was recognized by the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America as one of the Top 20 collegiate sports broadcasters in the United States.
- Cassie Buchheit graduated from Cor Jesu Academy in 2006, and completed her undergrad work at Rockhurst University. She is currently working on her Doctorate in Molecular Biology at The University of Notre Dame.
- Samantha Reitz graduated from Columbia University in 2010 with a degree in Middle Eastern Studies. She is currently in Law School at Columbia.
- Josh Hurst is currently at SIU-Edwardsville and is majoring in Computer Systems and Information Management.
- Zach Buchheit is a senior in international journalism on the staff of Maquette Tribune.
- Andrew Kaiser is at the University of Illinois majoring in history, and minoring in business. Andrew graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 2009.
- Cole Blechle graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 2010 where he was named an Illinois State Scholar. Cole is currently at the University of Illinois, majoring in Psychology.
- Jacob Gyore graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 2009 and is at the University of Illinois studying Engineering.
- Travis Constantine is a 2009 graduate of Gibault Catholic High School where he was named an Illinois State Scholar. Travis is at the University of Illinois, and is majoring in Civil Engineering.
- Megan Schwalbert graduated from Notre Dame High School in 2010, and is now at SIU-Edwardsville. She is studying Computer Science and Information Systems.
- Madison Cecena graduated from Notre Dame High School in 2010, and is now at Southeastern Missouri State University studying Psychology.
- Kaila Lavoie graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 2010. She was named an Illinois State Scholar, and is currently attending the University of Illinois.
- Joe Steck graduated from De Smet Jesuit High School in 2010, and is currently studying PGA Golf Management at Mississippi State University.
- Bailey Amann graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 2010, and is now attending Eastern Illinois University studying Communication Disorder Sciences.
- Emily Morris graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 2010 and is now attending the University of Evansville where she is studying nursing and is on the softball team.
- Jesse Garvey, a senior at Waterloo High School, was named an Illinois State Scholar for 2011
- Aron Aycock, a senior at Waterloo High School, was named an Illinois State Scholar for 2011, and was the valedictorian of the Waterloo High School class of 2011. Aron is currently attending the University of Missouri-Columbia.
- Victoria Schnepf, a senior at Waterloo High School, was named an Illinois State Scholar for 2011.
- Zach Dillon graduated from Waterloo High School in 2011 and enlisted in the United States Army. Private First Class Dillon is currently stationed at Fort Lee Virginia.
- Connor Fahy graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 2011 and enlisted in the United States Army. He is currently stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma as Air Defense Artillery.
- Emily Kessler graduated for Waterloo High School in 2011 and is currently at SWIC taking classes towards her Para-medicine Major.
- Kyle Wagner was awarded one of the Waterloo High School's Top Ten Freshman Awards. Kyle had the highest GPA in his freshman class.
- Katherine Pate was awarded one of the Waterloo High School's Top Ten Freshman Awards. Katherine had the second highest GPA in the freshman class.
The Nineties
Class of 1990
- Kara (Toenjes) Metz graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 1994 and attended Illinois State University where she earned her B.S. in Apparel Merchandising and Design. She is currently the apparel merchandising manager for Staples promotional products. Kara is married and lives in Columbia with her husband and daughter.
- Krista (Toenjes) Stahly graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 1994 and attended Indiana State University where she earned her B.S. in Sports Management with a minor in Business Administration. She is currently the territory manager for Cummins, Inc. and lives in Indianapolis with her husband and two sons.
- Jill Haberl Steffens graduated from Gibault Catholic High School, and then went onto earn her B.S. degree from Quincy University in elementary education where she graduated summa cum laude. Jill earned her M.S. degree from Grand Valley State University, and is currently a fifth grade teacher of language arts and social studies in Walker Charter School in Grand Rapids, Michigan where she lives with her husband and three children. In 2009, Jill was nominated for Teacher of the Year.
- Becky (Donjon) Lowe attended Gibault Catholic High School, and then went onto earn her B.S. in Elementary Education at SIU-E. Becky currently teaches Kindergarten at SPPCS. Becky and her husband, Greg, reside in Waterloo with their two children.
- Tori (Goessling) Colombatto graduated from Gibault in 1997, and went onto earn her BS of Civil Engineering in 2001 from the University of Missouri - Columbia, and then her MS Engineering in 2002 from the University of Missouri - Columbia. Since 2002 Tori has been a Parsons Corporation Structural Engineer specializing in the design and construction of transportation- related structures such as bridges, roads, noise walls, and more.
- Dan Lane graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 1997, and went onto attend McKendree University. After graduating from McKendree, Dan entered the Financial Services industry. He is currently a Financial Advisor with Morgan-Keegan, a full-service investment firm, with local offices in Columbia, IL, Swansea, IL and Town and Country, MO.
- Nic Mueth graduated from the University of Illinois with an accounting degree, and is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Jimmy John's Franchising, LLC in Champaign, Illinois.
- Adam Frierdich earned his bachlor's degree from Fontebonne University and is currently operating H.J. Frierdich and Sons Construction - a custom home building business in Columbia, IL. Adam and his wife, Laura, currently reside in Columbia, IL with their two children.
- Laura (Reinhold) Frierdich graduated from the University of Missouri and currently teaches gifted education and classroom enrichment labs right here at SPPCS. She also does public relations for the school. Laura and her husband, Adam, currently reside in Columbia, IL and have two sons.
- Katie (Reinhold) Hernandez recently was the head chef at Chicago's Crofton on Wells, a restaurant awarded a Michelin Star under her watch. She currently is in charge of operations at Terrazza Grill, a Lombardo family restaurant.
- Ann Hermes is a photojournalist for the Christian Science Monitor in Boston. Her latest assignment had her covering the protests in Cairo, Egypt and the revolts in Syria.
- John C. Haberl attended Gibault Catholic High School, Illinois State University, and Florida International University after graduating from SPPCS. John earned a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Florida International in International Relations. John currently lives in Florida with his wife and daughter, and is employed by the U.S. State Department.
- Josh Mueth received his accounting degree at SIU-Carbondale, and then went on to graduate school at the University of Alabama. He is currently a CPA working at a firm in Milwaukee where he resides with his wife.
- Crystal (Nilges) Keeling received her B.S. in Psychology from SIUE, and went onto to receive her M.A. in Counseling and Organization Psychology from Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago. She also received her SSP in School Psychology from SIUE. Crystal works as a school psychologist for Perandoe Special Education District, and lives with her husband, Mike, and daughter, Charlotte, in Waterloo.
- Neil Stanglein graduated from the University of Missouri's Journalism School with an emphasis in radio and television in 2006 and his Master's Degree in Education in 2009. He is currently the coordinator for fraternity and sorority life at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He was recognized as a 2010 Outstanding Volunteer for the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors. Neil currently volunteers on the national level for the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors, the North American Inter-fraternity Conference, and the Delta Zeta Sorority.
- Jessica Hurst is a first grade teacher at St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Smithton, Illinois. Jessica graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 2003.
- Erin Reitz graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 2003, and from Northwestern in 2007 and is currently in graduate school at Northwestern. Erin is working on earning her doctorate in Art History.
The Eighties
Class of 1981
- Donna Bari-Reinhold graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 1985, and went onto attend college at Saint Louis University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She currently works as an Assistant Principal and teacher.
- Lori (Pierson) Roever is currently a teacher at SPPCS's Early Learning Center. She has two daughters, one attending Gibault Catholic High School and the other attending SPPCS.
Class of 1983
- Linette (Vogt) Hermanns graduated with B.S. in Political Science from Eastern Illinois University, and currently lives in Waterloo with her husband, daughter Elayna and canine son, Teddy.She is an Area Manager at Copying Concepts, a division of Sumner Group Inc. Linette specializes in providing printing and document management solutions to the organizations in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
- Laura (Toenjes) Metzger graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 1990, and went onto attend SIUE where she earned her B.S. in Business Administration and Finance. She earned her master's degree in elementary education, and currently teaches second grade at SPPCS. Laura and her husband, Bryan, currently reside in Waterloo with their four children.
- Kerry (Rippelmeyer) Brinkmann graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 1991. She attended Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and earned her B.S. in Elementary Education. Kerry currently teaches physical education at SPPCS, having taught at SPPCS a total of 11 years where she has earned her Advanced Catechist Certification. Kerry lives in Waterloo with her husband Keith and two children, both of whom attend SPPCS.
- Tara (Gibbs) Busch graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 1991. She attended Saint Louis University until 1995 at which time she graduated with a B.S. degree in Physical Therapy. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and received the Chairman's Award for Outstanding Clinical Achievement. She began her P.T. career at Barnes-Jewish Hospital with an emphasis on stroke and head injury rehabilitation. She currently works in local skilled nursing facilities caring for the elderly population. Tara currently lives in Waterloo with her husband, Tony, and her two children, Joe and Grace, who are both students at SPPCS.
Class of 1988
- Becky (Rau) Karsten graduated from Waterloo High School in 1992 and attended SIU-Edwardsville where she earned her B.S. in Education. She began her teaching career at
St. John the Baptist in Red Bud and then taught high school English at Valmeyer
High School for 6 years. Becky completed her Master's Degree in School Counseling in
2004 from Lindenwood University and have been the school counselor for the
Valmeyer School District for 7 years. She is married to Rich Karsten and they live
in Waterloo. We have two sons, Aidan and Brady, who are students at SPPCS.
The Seventies
Class of 1972
- Pat (Stogner) Hurst is a Spanish teacher at Gibault Catholic High School. Pat and her husband Ron, a teacher at SPPCS, have two children who also graduated from SPPCS.
- Kurt Reitz graduated from the University of Illinois's Law School in 1984 and is currently practicing at the firm of Thompson-Coburn in Belleville, Illinois. He and his wife, Connie, have two daughters who graduated from SPPCS and Gibault Catholic High School.
- Thomas Pape graduated from the Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and is currently living in Foster Pond. Tom is in the field of energy and water management consulting.
- Joe Shaffer graduated from Waterloo High School in 1977, and then went onto earn graduate and post-graduate (MPA) degrees from SIU-E. He served seven years in the U.S. Army, then worked for 21 years as a case manager and supervisor in an addictions case management program for court-ordered offenders. Since 2007, Joe has been employed in San Antonio, Texas as the Director of Operations at a Residential Re-entry Center for formerly incarcerated federal offenders.
The Sixties
Class of 1965
- Bob Pape graduated from Gibault in 1969 and Rockhurst University in 1973 with a degree in accounting. After 5 years of working for Arthur Andersen and Co. and getting his CPA certificate, Bob got involved in high-tech start-up companies. He has spent the last 33 years serving as a corporate officer with the primary responsibility to secure the needed financing as well as implement the required internal processes to help these companies create new and exciting technologies. While those technologies helped bring about many products and services that enrich our lives today, the Companies were also able to employ thousands of workers around the world. The Companies Bob helped create today generate billions of dollars in economic value annually and employ thousands of workers. Today Bob is doing much the same work but on a part-time, advisory basis.
- Chris Haberl graduated from Gibault Catholic High School in 1971, and went onto attend SIU-E, St. Louis University, and the University of Missouri at Rolla where he earned a B.S., M.S., and 15 plus credit hours. Chris has his Advanced Catechist Certification, and will have completed his 36 year of teaching at SPPCS in 2011. During his tenure teaching junior high science at SPPCS, Chris has earned many grants and awards, including, "Creative Science Instruction" $500 grant, a Children's Empowerment Award for "Outstanding Commitment and Dedication to the Children of the Waterloo Community", chosen to participate in a National Science Foundation Institute at SLU, and chosen as a participant in a National Science Foundation Grant Program.
- Carol (Helfrich) Postlewait had a career in commercial banking in St. Louis for twenty-eight years, and recently retired to serve our parish as a volunteer. Carol is currently one of our parish trustees.
- Mary Kay (Pape) Reinhold became a RN after high school, and worked many years in the OR and ER at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville. She eventually went to work for her husband, Mark, at his St. Louis printing company, McAuley, and currently serves as the President and CEO of McAuley Printing, Inc. Mark and Mary Kay had five children who all graduated from SPPCS and Gibault.
- Judy (Hankammer) Paisley attended Gibault Catholic High School, and then went onto SIU-Edwardsville where she earned her degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. Judy and her husband Mark reside in Waterloo, and have three children, all of whom graduated from SPPCS.
