                                      Volunteering

Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School relies heavily on the time and talents of our volunteers.  If you would like to become a volunteer at Saints Peter and Paul School, there are several opportunities available.  Whether you are a one time chaperon on a field trip, a weekly work room helper, or the classroom parent representative you are appreciated!  All volunteers who work in our school or with our children must have completed the Diocese of Belleville Child Protection Program.  First time volunteers will need to complete the Initial Child Protection Training.  To register for the Initial Child Protection Training, please call the parish office.  Each year thereafter, a refresher course in Child Protection must be taken.  The information for the 2010-2011 Child Protection Training Refresher Course may be downloaded by clicking here.

                                      Bingo

Every Thursday evening Saints Peter and Paul School hosts a community bingo at the Waterloo VFW.  Our volunteers are key to the success of our Bingo. Our volunteers typically work one time each month. Bingo runs from 4:30-10:15.  For more information call Cathy Pfeil 939-4384

                                      Classroom Help

Teachers occasionally need help in their classrooms with students and activities. Please contact your child’s teacher and volunteer with their classroom.

                                      Field Trips

Each grade participates in annual field trips. Permission slips must be returned to the teacher prior to the trip in order to attend. Parent volunteers are welcomed, but must have completed the Diocese of Belleville Child Protection Program. If you have not completed this training program, contact the parish office. Also, younger children are not permitted to attend the field trip with the parent volunteer.

                                      Library

The lower grade library (grades preschool – 3rd) is in need of volunteers just one day a month. As a volunteer, you would help with checking out books and keeping the library neat and orderly. Contact Michelle Gundlach for library hours.

                                      Parent Representative

It is important for each classroom to have a contact person when certain circumstances arise. If someone in your class has a death in the family or a serious accident, the school office will contact you as a parent rep/room parent. It would be your responsibility to contact the other parents of the class to make them informed.

As a Parent Rep you would be responsible for:
                                      • Preparing a phone tree in order to contact your class quickly if the need arises
                                      • Organizing a Christmas gift for the class to give to the teacher

As a Room Parent you would be responsible for:
                                      • Working with the teacher in organizing class parties
                                      • Preparing a phone tree in order to contact your class quickly if the need arises
                                      • Organizing a Christmas gift for the class to give to the teacher

P.A.T.S. (Parents Appreciate Teachers & Staff)

Secret Pal for Teachers and Staff
Don’t you ever wonder how they do all that they do? If it wasn’t for our dedicated faculty and staff, where would our school be?! Want to thank them, but not sure how? Offer to be a Secret Pal. You can choose a faculty or staff member (first come basis) or a name will be provided for you. Show your appreciation throughout the year with little trinkets and surprises. Bring them a special treat on their birthday or just send them a note about how great they are. Each will fill out a “personality profile” to provide you with all of their favorite things. The secret will be revealed during Teacher Appreciation week in May.

                                      Parent/Teacher Conference Dinner
Teachers are treated to a well-deserved dinner on the night of Parent Teacher Conferences. The food is provided, and three to four volunteers are needed to help serve and clean up.

                                      P.A.T.S. Week
This week is set aside to pamper the faculty and staff with anything imaginable. Personal thank you notes from the students and parents, sweet treats and surprises, an All School Mass in their honor and a luncheon with the works are just a few of the things we do to show our teachers and staff just how much they mean to us. Most of the activities are during school hours.

                                      Playground/Cafeteria

Volunteers are needed to work the playground during lunch recess times. Volunteers are also needed to assist in the cafeteria. Please contact Sarah Krebel via Fast Direct to volunteer as a permanent or substitute worker.

                                      Work Room

As a workroom volunteer, various office duties such as copying, sorting, laminating, etc. are done to help lessen the load for the faculty. If you would like to help just a few hours a week, contact Cathy Pfeil via fast direct for times that are needed.
